Formlabs

Virtual assets, tangible value.

Overview

Bringing 3D printers to life through digital storytelling.

Formlabs partnered with Fresco to create captivating product assets for 3D printer launches, e-commerce, and campaigns. This included animations, 3D technical tours, and product renderings. We crafted a versatile digital twin library of their 3D printers and materials, allowing us to innovate and produce fresh content, and eliminating the need for traditional product photography.

Our Process

We worked closely with Formlabs' design, engineering and marketing teams to bring their 3D printer line to life digitally, producing photoreal renders and animations true to every material, finish, and detail of the physical products.

Built to evolve

With virtual photography, nothing is static, and digital twins are an open-ended tool offering the versatility to extend the life of the photoshoot. As needs change, a product can be animated, updated, new interactions can be added, and 3D scenes can be reinvented to reflect new brand goals.

Creating the digital twins

Using CAD data and physical product samples, we created high-fidelity digital twins of the Formlabs product line. Every 3D asset is optimized to include all materials, textures, colors, and finishes.

Showcasing technical excellence

For the Form 4 launch, we aimed to highlight Formlabs' technical prowess – its high speeds and superior 3D printing quality. Collaborating with their creative, design, and engineering teams, we crafted a series of compelling animations to guide the customer through the features – Backlight Unit, Light Processing Unit 4, and proprietary Release Texture.

Capturing the hero shots

The hero shots capture the printers inside and out. These product renderings also capture the different printing materials and parts from different customer industries – dental, medical, and engineering.

Seamless product staging

By designing a virtual 3D printing lab in which to showcase their entire product line, we brought a new level of creative flexibility to Formlabs’ product photography. With a virtual approach to staging products in context, we were able to curate the perfect look and feel, and test various compositions with ease.
